World Economic Forum 2025

The World Economic Forum (WEF) is an international non-governmental organisation that brings together political and business leaders, investors, economists, journalists, and public figures to address pressing global issues through high-profile annual meetings across the world.

Founded in 1971 by Klaus Schwab, the Forum is especially known for its annual gathering held in the Swiss alpine town of Davos every January. Over a week, around 3,000 participants from around the world convene to discuss solutions aimed at advancing global welfare.

WEF 2025 – What are the Themes?

Scheduled for January 20-24, 2025, this edition of the Forum will explore three major themes: the response to recent geopolitical shocks, the advancement of equitable economic growth, and the need for a sustainable, just energy transition.

Sustainable Energy Transition: As the energy sector transforms, this theme emphasizes the need for a transition that is both sustainable and inclusive, considering the pressing environmental concerns and the need for equitable energy access. Discussions will cover innovations in green energy and strategies for managing the social impact of this global shift​

Geopolitical Challenges: The WEF 2025 will delve into complex geopolitical disruptions, particularly focusing on how nations and sectors can adapt to conflicts, economic sanctions, and evolving alliances. This theme addresses the strategies required to maintain stability and collaboration amid rising global tensions.

Inclusive Economic Growth: With living standards a critical focus, leaders will examine pathways to stimulate economic growth that benefits diverse communities worldwide. This includes analyzing new frameworks for resilience and long-term prosperity in a rapidly shifting economic landscape.

Organising travel to Davos during this event is complicated at the best of times.

The town is unsurprisingly transformed to a military town, with many security checks, road blocks & roads that are completely shut. Furthermore, many places are inaccessible unless you have the corresponding access badges.

The adverse weather conditions also present a challenge as snow – and sometimes blizzards – is almost always on the agenda and the temperature generally hovers around -10 degrees Celsius. This means roads & pavements are slippery and road accidents are unfortunately common.

The extreme congestion linked to the town tripling in size also presents its own problems, from longer travel times to a scarcity of resources that cannot cope with the increased demand. Think a lack of restaurant & accommodation availability, to name a few.
